Dear Edgar,
Thank you very much for this beautiful and touching posting on the Ehpes
Blog.
Yes, Art gives us joy and consolation.
And, Paul Celan is a source of inspiration for hundreds of artists around
the world.
Volker Koepp started his "Czernowitzer experience" in search of Paul Celan.
Danke schoen,
Irene

Czernowitzers...

Today the curtain falls at the 40th edition of the Duisburg Documentary Film
Festival, which took place under the motto “Es ist Zeit” [It is time]
between 7 – 13 November 2016. Selected knowingly or not by the festival
organizers, “It is time” is at the same time the concluding line for Paul
Celan’s poem “Corona”. Beyond the festival’s motto, two films are directly
or indirectly related to Czernowitz:

"The Dreamed Ones", awarded by

Grand Diagonale Prize: Best Austrian Feature Film Best artistic editing of a
Feature Film - Diagonale, Graz Prix des Jeunes Special Mention Prix
International de la SCAM – Cineěma du Reěel, Paris

is a must view for Paul Celan admirers and/or Czernowitzers, but not only.
Let's listen to Ruth Beckermann, "our" filmmaker:

"The themes of love and hate are depicted in the movie "The Dreamed Ones".
At center stage are the two poets Ingeborg Bachmann and Paul Celan, who came
to know each other in post-war Vienna. Their dramatic postal exchange
creates the textual basis of the film. Two young actors meet in a recording
studio to read the letters. The tumultuous emotions of proximity and
distance, fascination and fear captivate them. However they also enjoy each
other‘s company, arguing, smoking, discussing their tattoos and favourite
music. Yesterdays love, todays love and tomorrows: where the lines are
blurred lies the heart of the film."

Enjoy the trailers as well as the links to the detailed film presentations
and author's biographies. In addition don't miss the "Literary Supplement"
at the bottom of the posting above. Be confident, we'll do our best to make
these films available to all of you!
