Bobby Schneider is my senior and his father Duziu was an acquaintance of =
my father, and we were also for some time in Tulchin together. His =
memoires must be more correct. Nevertheless there are some events I =
would like to emphasize as I remember them =E2=80=93 first the poor =
inmates of the "Sichenhaus" that used to walk around in the camp begging =
for food. One of them Advocat Gross was what you might call "raving mad" =
and his shouts could be heard day and night. The Romanians =
didn=E2=80=99t want to bother too much with this problem so they moved =
us one day to the neighboring village of Chertwertinowka , and brought =
us back next day. As young child I used to wander in the camp compound =
mainly down to the river bank. As I did this when we returned from =
Chertwertinowka I saw the bodies of the inmates scattered on a pile of =
quarry waste. Shot by the Romanians. It must be emphasized that there =
was no food supply whatsoever except what people could buy from the =
peasants, or improvise (my mother remembered that it's possible to eat =
Nettles, if they are properly peeled. She used to boil them making a =
kind of soup). And there were at the beginning some Oysters on the river =
bank which we didn't look for after some time because they used to throw =
the corpses of the dead in the river, and there were deaths from various =
causes too. The site of this stone quarry was used, because before the =
occupation it was used by the Soviets as a Gulag. There were no signs =
of all this when I visited the place in 2001, only a bit farther towards =
the village my guide showed me a site of an unmarked mass grave (maybe =
the Jews that lived in this area), and farther there is a big Ukrainian =
state women prison. Just some facts from many others about Carera de =
Piatra one of many deportation sites in Transnistria

Look up what our friend Bobby Schreiber wrote about it in his memoirs.
