Dear Hardy,
Having lost my treasured Leah nearly half a year ago, after 62 years of togetherness, I know the pain and anguish at your loss of your dear wife, Rachel, and there is little consolation that can mollify it. You are torn with the awful feeling of regret – why didn’t I go first, or at least why didn’t we leave together. After so many years of sharing life’s happy and sad experiences, as one entity, you feel lost. It takes time to absorb the calamity, because for months and months you still feel her presence at your side. whenever you look at something or recall some event.
Yet, there are two consoling facts that you need keeping focused on:
- the infinite gratitude for the love and togetherness Rachel has graced you with, for so many years, and for having chosen you in the first place to leave her life-long fate and happiness in your hands, and, ,
- the gratitude for the loving family she has awarded you, and for whom - your children and grandchildren - you now represent both the beloved grandma and grandpa, and must continue to bear the torch of both your love for them, and be their consolation for their loss.
