Please do not hire Uri Prestupenko to find specific graves for you
in the Jewish cemetery of Czernowitz/Chernivtsi.
He is a crook: I asked him to find the grave of my grandmother
and I agreed that we would pay him $50.
Then I asked him to find the grave of my grandfather,
He went to the office, supposedly to look up the location in the
register.
After about ten minutes he came back and said that he could not find
the location.
If we would pay him $100 he would look again.
Stupidly we agreed.
My grandfather's grave is exactly across the paths from my
grandmother's grave.

Do not encourage corruption, if the manager of the cemeteries, Anghela,
has the death registers, demand to see them. All the prewar data is
in German
or Romanian and you can read them.
In all my dealings in Chernivtsi on about 15 visits, no one else
tried to cheat me
Most Ukrainians, just like we, would prefer to live in an honest and
fair society.

Uri Prestupenko was the previous manager of the cemeteries,
he was fired because an American tourist photographed him accepting a
bribe.
