I recently discovered that the family of a relative by marriage
originated in Czernowitz.
The name of the family was Blum.
Trying to discover how long ago this family settled in Czernowitz,
I first looked for the name Blum in the "Jewish Taxpayers in Bukovina
at the End of 18th Century"
( does this mean 1799?)
I found 11 families by the name of Blum, all of them in Mihalze and
Sinaoutz.
In the Czernowitz address book of 1898, I found 27 families by the
name of Blum.
By 1914 there were 30 Blum families in Czernowitz
and by 1936 their number had increased to 69 families.
Most probably, currently there are no Blums in Chernivtsi.
