Dear Edgar,
many ‚German' Czernowitzers went to Graz after World War I: it was as well an university town, it had/has pretty much the same size, it was within the new Austrian borders and it was highly German nationalistic (deutschnational) - many of them sympathized with that ideology.
‚Ostjuden‘ (not really translate-able, pejorative for eastern jewry) were not welcomed.
