Hello again,

Yes, Merle, it is unbelievable. It is also humbling to know that the Lehrs, Kulas, Budabins and Shurtmans who are now spread all over the world, were all spawned in this little corner of Europe. An interesting note: my father's mother's partners in their textile factory were the Lermers. When World War I ended and Cz became part of Romania, they did not bother to take out Romanian citizenship. When the horrors began in 1940, they could not get exit Visas because they were not citizens. No one heard from them again. To my knowledge, only one Lermer survived - Fritz. He was unbelievably lucky. When her arrived in Halifax, he was checked for medical issues, but not turned back. A few weeks afterward, he was sent to "the San", the sanitorium for TB patients in Hamilton. He was cured, but he left "our fold" and we lost track of him. He was so emaciated !

Regards to everyone

Bob

Thank you for sharing this story with us.
Yes, it is an unbelievable story, but the fact that it is true says so much about human nature.
