Shalom to All,
Yom haZikaron laShoah ve laGvura has nothing to do with " the official end
of WWII". It is the Holocaust Martyrs' and Heroes' Remembrance Day .
"The original proposal was to hold Yom HaShoah on the 14th of Nisan, the
anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising (April 19, 1943), but this was
problematic because the 14th of Nisan is the day immediately before Pesach
(Passover). The date was moved to the 27th of Nisan, which is eight days
before Yom Ha'atzma'ut, or Israeli Independence Day." (Wikipedia)
Happy Birthday to the State of Israel , today !
Irene

Czernowitzers...
Thanks to Carol Elias, we've updated our post "To be a Bukovinian" by adding
BUKOLINK8, i. e. the April 2017 edition, of the newsletter released by the
World Organization of Bukovina Jews and Descendants to our Ehpes Blog:

Carol wrote: "... In Israel as you know Holocaust Memorial Day does not come
on the day of the liberation of Auschwitz as is done on International
Holocaust Commemoration Day (January 27) but is done at the official end of
WWII, each year being slightly different according to the Hebrew calendar.
This month's issue is especially moving and fascinating. ..."
