Dear Czernowitz List members -
The Jewish Online Worldwide Burial Registry now includes photos and
available, related information on the over 800 graves in the Jewish
cemetery of Vashkivtsi (Vashkovtsy [Rus], Vășcăuţi [Rom], Vashkovitz
[Yid], Waschkoutz am Czeremosch), Ukraine. As you will see, most
persons were identified by their Hebrew names, and many of the stones
are illegible. If you have not previously used JewishGen, I encourage
you to register and support the effort to document our rich Eastern
European and Global Jewish heritage.
The records can be accessed through JewishGen at

Information about the cemetery, and the seperate memorial at the other
side of town to those who were murdered in 1941, is at

Vashkivtsi it located about 45 minutes west of Czernowitz by car,
about halfway to Wiznitz.
It is definitely worth a stop if you are planning to tour Bukovina.
I will be visiting Bukovina again in early July, in the event you will
be there and wish to meet.
