Czernowitzers...
The July 2017 edition of the "Book of the Month" takes us back to Czernowitz, in the supposedly "good old days", i. e. before WWI, when the military orchestra of the Imperial-Royal 41st Infantry Regiment Erzherzog Eugen entertained the middle classes in the Czernowitz City Park "Volksgarten" each Wednesday in the afternoon. The history of the infantry regiment dates back to the year 1701 and is subject of three large volumes, covering the periods of time 1701-1806, 1807-1887 and 1888-1905 respectively:

You don't need to be(come) an expert for the Austro-Hungarian Army, you even don't need to read German in order to flip through these rare books and to enjoy the unique photos, displayed at the posting above. They will give you an idea of the multi-ethnicity of Czernowitz by presenting: Romanians, Ruthenians [Ukrainians], Jews, Poles, Swabians [Germans], Lipovans [Russian Old Believers], Hutsuls [Ukrainians from the Carpathians], Hungarians, Gypsies.
