Czernowitzers...
Mid July I released a posting on the German/Romanian project "Jewish Life in Radautz Before, During and After the Holocaust":

Bruce wrote: "Wonderful project; congratulations to the team! It would be so interesting to interview the students at some point to hear their thoughts and their reactions to what they learned during the course of this project. I’m so impressed."
Well, dear Bruce, please let me summerize some statements of students/teachers as follows:
Diana (RO): Diana learned a lot about the Holocaust in Romania and she's impressed and grateful at the same time that German students take a proactive interest in this subject.
Theodora (RO): For Theodora the time together with her schoolmates from Germany elapsed too fast; she'd continue the project for at least four more weeks.
Safira (RO): Before this project, Safira's knowlege about the Jewish influence in Radautz, her hometown, was extremely poor; this project was an eye-opener for her.
Teodora (RO): Teodora didn't know about the existence, not to mention the location of the Radautz Jewish Cemetery; it was a mystery for her, now disclosed!
Boy (RO): To learn about the Holocaust from books or from the Internet is one thing, but to discuss with survivors and witnesses like Bondy Stenzler and others is a totally different experience.
Cristina (RO): Cristina, the Romanian teacher, states that it's extremely important to commemorate the Romanian Holocaust victims and in particular those Jews, who were deported to Transnistria and to other camps.
Christoph (D): Christoph states that by the practice-oriented approach to this project history came to life.
Julia (D): Julia is deeply involved in this project over the last years. She was among those students, who conducted interviews in Israel with Holocaust survivors from Radautz. Julia is one of the most active students when it comes to history and research works.
Finn (D): Finn is grateful that he had the opportunity to learn much more about Romania, its culture and its population.
Anna-Sophie (D): Anna-Sophie reminds us that they, i. e. young people from all countries, based on historical awareness, bear the responsability for a peaceful future.
As long as we have dedicated students and teachers like this, I think we can look ahead a bit more relaxed.
