I thought that to launch the New Year, the membership might be interested in the video link below and the following explanation.
In 1994, I did one of the smartest things I have ever done. I recorded and interviewed my parents in their living room at our house in Montreal. They spoke for almost an hour about their lives in Romania, Italy and Montreal. It was a priceless, heart wrenching yet often funny video.
Then I did one of the dumbest things I have ever done and lost the tape. Or at least, I thought I did. It turned out that the mini-VHS tape was hiding in the adaptor which I only discovered recently when I got my middle son to transfer a bunch of old tapes from VHS to dvd's.
My late father Carol (aka Carl, Karol or Karl, depending on his mood that day) is hilarious at times and my mom Sally is sweet, vibrant and brave to relate her story. Both were in their early 70's when I recorded this and had terrific memories, although they did occasionally fight over the details.
My dad passed away in 2009 but my 95 year old mother is thankfully still with us.
I thought you'd appreciate this video that has been uploaded below onto a private YouTube site.
It's a long video (60 minutes) but an important visual/verbal record of Holocaust survivors and is worth the watch.
Happy New Year.
