Czernowitzers...

Today I'd like to share with you a very special Cezernowitz map (click on
the image to enlarge) from the year 1913. I've uploaded the image to our
Ehpes Blog:

http://ehpes.com/blog1/?p=10249

It shows the exact location of kerosene street lamps, specified by small
kerosene lamps or big "power" kerosene lamps (OLSO type) for the year 1913.
As early as 1910 the municipality of Czernowitz decided to implement the
installation of kerosene street lamps, not only for the city center, but
for the suburbs too; nobody anticipated WWI...?!

This map was signed by my grandfather Elias Hauster, senior commissioner of
public works in Czernowitz and I enjoy the idea that he personally took this
extended walk in order to plot the location of each and any single lamp.
Next year in Czernowitz I'll try to equal him!
