Czernowitzers...

It was Bruce, who drew my attention to Dr. Svetlana Frunchak's essay "Studying the Land, Contesting the Land: A Select Historiographic Guide to Modern Bukovina", now available as Book of the Month, December 2017 at our Czernowitz Book Corner:

http://czernowitzbook.blogspot.de/2017/12/studying-land.html

Svetlana opens her abstract to the essay as follows: "This guide surveys the historiography of Bukovina, a region adjacent to the slopes of the outer, eastern Carpathians in East Central Europe. This work is intended as an introductory guide to the historical literature on Bukovina, which is voluminous but not easily accessible to readers who are not familiar with Eastern European languages."

In addition to the essay itself, "Volume 2: Notes" to her guide represents a real bibliographical treasure chest for Bukovina researchers, but not only. Svetlana's thesis "The Making of Soviet Chernivtsi - National “Reunification,” World War II, and the Fate of Jewish Czernowitz in Postwar Ukraine" became already our Book of the Month, January 2016:

Enjoy the reading and Happy Chanukka!
