This is to confer my sincere condolences to the Artzi family, who just lost prematurely the daughter of Itzhak Artzi, sister of musician Shlomo Artzi, Mrs Naava Semel, who succumbed to cancer at the age of 63. This was a double loss to the family, since their mother. Mimi (Margalit), who also was a Holocaust survivor (Auschwitz), passed away only two weeks ago.
She was a prolific Hebrew writer, who published 16 books, plays, opera-libretti, and screen-plays (many were translated into other languages and published abroad), focusing on the Second Generation in Israel. Her novel "And the Rat Laughed" was adapted to an opera libretto in 2005 and ran on The Cameri Theatre stage until 2009.
She served on the Board of Governors of Yad Vashem and the Board of Directors of "Massuah" - the Institute for Holocaust studies - at kibbutz Tel Yitzhak.
