Czernowitzers...

As "Book of the Month, March 2019" I'm reposting Friedrich J. Ortwein's illustrated "Czernowitz: Jüdische Stadt deutscher Sprache [Jewish City of German Language]":

http://czernowitzbook.blogspot.com/2019/03/czernowitz-judische-stadt-deutscher.html

Friedrich stated in 2014: "The children and grandchildren of Czernowitzers, together with a few Holocaust survivors, have created a website containing a huge data volume and so they emphasize in an unique and inimitable way their love for the home country of their ancestors. Forum members from all over the world, from the Americas, from Australia and South Africa, from Israel and Europe analyze, comment and swap ideas on events, research their genealogical roots, discuss and value rediscovered archival materials, enjoy old and new photos, exchange holiday and birthday wishes and all this happens in English with embedded German, Yiddish and Hebrew particles."

This means YOU / US, (even if the enthusiasm for discussion is sometimes intermittent)! Friedrich is still closely linked to Bukovina and he drew my attention to the fact that the novel "The Train Was on Time"

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Train_Was_on_Time

by Literature Nobel Prize laureate Heinrich Böll initially was titled "Between Lemberg and Czernowitz" and "focuses on the experience of German soldiers during the Second World War on the Eastern Front where fighting was particularly vicious and unforgiving". Paul Celan wrote in Heinrich Böll's copy of "Sprachgitter": "Cordially and in remembrance of the German soldier between Lemberg and Czernowitz." The renowned FAZ reports on this: https://bit.ly/2NDSRnm

Thank you for your committment, dear Friedrich!
