Czernowitzers...
Motivated by Naftali's blog post on the "Storojinets Ghetto in August 1941", re-posted recently at our Ehpes Blog
http://ehpes.com/blog1/?p=10812
our fellow member Dr. Jolie Weininger from Jerusalem is sharing with us her touching testimony, which starts as follows:
“Yesterday morning checking my e-mail I saw the post about Storojinetz in August 1941. When watching on Naftali Zloczower’s blog the part of the list of the inhabitants of the Ghetto where his family members were shown under a magnifying glass, below I suddenly saw the name of my Paternal Grand-Father : Neuman recte Weininger Nechemia! [...]" ... Read the full story at the blog post above!
Well, dear Jolie, as a matter of fact, it's me, who placed this magnifying glass on one of Naftali's images, in order to highlight the term "Ghetto" in the form, but you and Naftali gave us an idea of the consequences of this only apparently bureaucratic census effected by the Romanian authorities in the fall of the year 1941. Thank you both for your dedication!

Czernowitzers...
By courtesy of Naftali Zloczower, Kibbutz Kfar Charuv in Israel, I reposted from the Bukovina Jewish Heritage Sites Blog Naftali's posting on the "Storojinets Ghetto in August 1941", available now at our Ehpes Blog:
http://ehpes.com/blog1/?p=10812
Read the full story, DOWNLOAD the "Partial List of Inhabitants of the Storojinets Ghetto in August 1941" as provided by Naftali and don't miss his illustrated travel log on "Banila Czernowitz Ropcha and Storozhinetz":

It is interesting to learn (see photos) that the Romanian authorities used in August 1941 very different forms for registering the Jewish population. While some of them looked quite harmless, in line with regular census forms from the year 1941, others focused clearly on the "behavior" of the Jews during the 1940/41 Soviet occupation of Bukovina; an unambigous pointer to the Holocaust and the expropriation of the Jewish population to come.
Thank you for your effort and your dedication, dear Naftali!
