Dear Group,

I will be visiting Czernowitz this September and I have a few questions I would like to ask the group. My paternal great-grandfather Srul Lieb Beutel lived in Sadagura at the time of my grandfather Usher's birth in 1865 later in the mid 1890s he was living in Boyan. I visited the Boyan Jewish Cemetery in May 2018 and it had been completely cleared of debris, it offered wonderful views of Czernowitz. Does anyone know who was responsible for the cleaning and if records were made of the gravestones? Do records exist for the cemeteries in Sadagura? Do photographs exist of Boyan before it was destroyed by the Russians at the start of WW1. My paternal grandmother Malka Scharfstein was born in Uscie Biskupie, a small village on the north shore of the Dienster River about 30 kilometres northeast of Czernowitz. Malka married Usher Beutel in Uscie in 1895 and sometime in the first decade of the 20th century the family moved to Boyan where they stayed until the start of the World War. Is anyone in possession of written records or photos of Uscie Biskupie that can be shared. Any and all information would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,

Ian Beitel
