Czernowitzers...

I'm raising the following question on behalf of historian (and friend) Prof. Dr. Mariana Hausleitner, author of "Die Rumänisierung der Bukowina" [The Romanization of Bukovina] and - among many others - the November "Book of the Month" at our Czernowitz Book Corner:

http://czernowitzbook.blogspot.com/2019/11/rumanien-und-der-holocaust.html

DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY KNOWLEDGE AND/OR EVIDENCE ON RESCUE ACTIONS EFFECTED BY GHEORHE FLONDOR IN FAVOR OF BUKOVINIAN JEWS?

He was the last Royal Governor for Bukovina in 1939-1940. He was born in 1892 and made his law studies in Vienna. Between 1927-1935 he was MP and between 1935-1937 Senator for the National Liberal Party. During the war years he lived reclusively at his manor and escaped to Sibiu in 1944. In 1956 he was sentenced to ten years of prison due to persecution of anti-fascists before 1940. From 1962 on he had to take a forced domicile in Baragan, where he died impoverished in 1985. Supposedly some Jews stated on the occasion of Flondor's trial that he was helping them. That's what Mihai Panzaru from the Bukovina Institute was suggesting without any source citation.

Back to you, and I'm looking forward to reading your comments.
