To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Europe, Memphis
Film & TV is offering free streaming through May of it’s war-related
films on Vimeo, including A Shtetl in the Caribbean. The film has
been the subject of many previous postings on this list and The Ehpes
Blog, with many inquiries of where it can be viewed. This is your
opportunity for a limited time to see the film free of charge.
The documentary was filmed in several locations including Bukovina and
on the Caribbean island of Curaçao, where many Jews from Czernowitz
found refuge before and after the Holocaust. As the child of one such
refugee who came to the island in 1929, in the film I explore my
father’s journey along with my childhood friend Tsale, whose parents
arrived from Belarus in 1948.
