We should pause to remember all our relatives who perished and suffered in
Transistria on this Yom Hashoa. Transistria is too often not mentioned on
this memorial day. It is now 7 months since my mother, Blanka End Winters,
of blessed memory passed away. She never overcame the suffering at Bershad.
As she would say "I died before I ever lived'. She never accepted the loss
of her father, Lazar End, her brother Leopold End, and her stepmother Sai
Katz End , in Bershad. Yet she always believed 'tomorrow will be a better
day'.

Those who perished and those who survived should be blessed on earth and in
Gan Eden. We must remind the world that Transistria should never be
forgotten, for if we do we will only neglect the souls of those who went
through this nightmare.

I also must mourn for the point blank murder by Nazis of Shlomo Vinter, in
Brezhany my grandfather (father to Sigi Schapira Winters' - Vienna,
Czernowitz).

My sister, Marilyn and I, like countless others born shortly after the
Holocaust never enjoyed uncles, aunts, or grandparents and grew up in the
shadows and ghosts of those who perished. May the souls of those who died
and suffered in Transistria and elsewhere be elevated, strengthened, and
suffer no more, on this Yom Hashoa and all days henceforth.
