Dear Friends,

It seems like a good time to remind list members to kindly post in Plain Text. To prevent viruses and to keep the list archives on the "smaller" side for storage/archiving, messages to the list are distributed in Plain Text.? If you send your message in other formats (html, rich text, with attached photos), we make the extra effort on the moderator's end to strip out the formatting, and remove the attachments. Then we approve the message for distribution to the list.

If you notice that your posted message has a series of strange characters on line one, and that apostrophes are replaced with strange characters, then that's your clue that you're not posting in Plain Text. If you can't figure it out, then we'll continue to modify your post on our end, but if you can post in Plain Text, your moderators will treat you to schmettentorte next time we see you <grin>.

Instructions for plain text posting are found in a link in the footer of every message, or right here:
https://www.jewishgen.org/infofiles/plaintext.html

Simon Kreindler once wrote that there is an App for smartphones, 'apptly' called "Plain Text". It's available for iOS (Apple) on the App Store, but I'm not sure about Android and other phones. It makes plain text posting from phones just Plain easy.

Thanks for your posts, and let your moderators know if we can help!

Cheers,
Bruce Reisch
(list owner)
