This is where I got the information about the New Year=E2=80=99s Eve =
Party:

Before Memories Fade by Pearl Fichman, Page 70, from =E2=80=9CChapter 4, =
Russians Overnight=E2=80=9D:

=E2=80=9CAmong the ways to indoctrinate and also to entertain the =
population were big parades on holidays: May Day and November 7, the =
celebration of the October Revolution. Participation at the parades was =
compulsory=E2=80=A6 On these holidays, as well as on New Year=E2=80=99s =
eve, were big parties in school, with dancing, food and drink. On New =
Year=E2=80=99s eve was a masquerade ball, dancing and drinking all =
night.=E2=80=9D

However, I have thus far been able to find a second source that reports =
this revelry, which is why I=E2=80=99m sharing this question with this =
group.

Thank you again,

Elana
