Dear Jill,

Please check - in addition to Bruce's hints - "The Central Database of Shoah Victims' Names" at Yad Vashem

https://yvng.yadvashem.org

and you'll find Leo Flinker and large number of Hartenstein family members from Czernowitz. I'm not familiar with their fate during the Holocaust, but I discovered an interesting obituary, published by Bukowinaer Post on May 7, 1914, which I'd like to share with you:

https://bit.ly/38CwHeE

Some highlights from the obituary: Dr. Leo Flinker's father was Dr. Jakob Flinker, born in Czernowitz in 1846. Medical studies in Vienna and Graz. Doctoral in 1875, followed by his outstanding career as forensic physician, prison doctor, senior city physician of Czernowitz in 1910. Royal Councilor, Holder of the Medal of Honor. He left behind his wife and his son, the railways officer Dr. Leo Flinker, as well as two daughters, one of them married to the lawyer Dr. Severin Hartenstein, the other one to the railways officer Dr. Adolf Bieder. The Mayor of Czernowitz, Dr. Weißelberger, the entire Board of the Jewish Community as well as a huge number of notabilities attended the funeral in May 1914.

Each and any reason to be proud of your great-great-uncle, dear Jill. Hope some of the data were new or at least interesting to you. Warmest wishes and I wish you success in your research!

Edgar Hauster

Hi Jill,

I don't know of a centralized source for information on those tragically murdered in Transnistria. But there are several sources out there. Starting with JewishGen:

https://www.jewishgen.org/databases/Holocaust/
I do know that several of the databases included here come from Transnistria data.

https://www.jewishgen.org/databases/Yizkor/
This Yizkor Book Necrology database also includes some Bukovina listings.

I'm sure there are other places to look as well. Hopefully others will add to this discussion.

Nice to hear from you, and hope all is well with you and your family, Jill!

Best regards,

Bruce

    Hello all

For years I=E2=80=99ve wondered what happened to my great uncle Leo Flinker=
     and his
sister Rebekah Hartenstein. I know Leo and family lived in Czernowitz up
until WW2, Rebekah I think elsewhere. There is a large silence surrounding
them. Are there any names of those who died at Transnistria or in
    Czernowitz during the war?
    Thanks!
