Czernowitzers...

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is represented in Romania through its lectors, who work in the country’s most important university centers. Dr. Susanne Lorenz, a gifted lector, has presented a fact- and source-based article (in German) dealing with the Chair of German Studies in Jassy at the oldest Romanian university from the point of view of its research focus over the past thirty years:

This is, how could it be otherwise, not least a tribute to Prof. Andrei Corbea-Hoisie, who took over the leadership of the re-established chair after the end of communism in 1989. He deserves the honor of having shaped this internationally recognized institution over decades, and Dr. Susanne Lorenz's article provides eloquent information about this.

Prof. Andrei Corbea-Hoisie's publication list is so extensive that it is difficult to single out any one. Nevertheless, for me his "Jüdisches Städtebild Czernowitz" [The Jewish Cityscape of Czernowitz], which was recently reissued, is and remains formative.

Enjoy the reading!
