Dear Jonah,

As far as the personal fate of Karol Binder and Berta Reisch (née Binder) is concerned, unfortunately I have no information. I only know that "Die Stimme" was for my father's generation, born in 1912, what the Internet is for us today. Once per month, several times a day my father went to the mailbox to see if his personal copy of his "Die Stimme" was already there, his most important link to Bukovina. That is why it is so valuable that "Die Stimme" is available online at DiFMOE:

Video archives that specialize in oral history, such as the USC Shoah Foundation and the Fortunoff Video Archive for Holocaust Testimonies are very valuable in reconstructing the lives of our ancestors:

Just my two cents! Warmest wishes to you and yours!

Edgar – Thanks a lot for sharing this book and the names contained in it!

My 2nd great-uncle and great-aunt emigrated from Czernowitz to Israel
after the war and I am sure the book would contain insights about what
their experiences were like.

I have never been able to learn much about them specifically, however.
Their names were Karol Binder and Berta Reisch (née Binder) and they
resided in Bat Yam, Tel Aviv.

Might you or any others have suggestions as to avenues I can take to
find out more about their experiences in Israel? Are there any
resources of note? Community organizations for Bukoviners in Israel,
perhaps? Synagogue registers? I have been meaning to ask about this
and this seems like an opportune time.

Thanks!

Jonah

It’s a great reminder of some of the treasures of information out there, waiting to be uncovered – in some cases, waiting to be uncovered again. Thank you to Dr. Hausleitner for excellence in her work!

My friend and historian Dr. Mariana Hausleitner, together with her students, conducted interviews with Holocaust survivors from Bukovina who emigrated to Israel. The book, published in 2003, is an excellent example of how oral history can be used to convey a deeper understanding of the fate of our families from Bukovina. These are the interviewees whose brief biographies are also included in the book:
