Dear Shaul,

Coincidence or not, you'll find family names mentioned by you, i. e. Morgenstern, Brandes, Goldenberg unanimously united in a newspaper article dated 16-Jun-1925 by Czernowitzer Morgenblatt (see attachment). At the general meeting of the Nathan Beserer Association, an Association for the Support of the Shamefaced [!?] Poor, all of them appear:

• Josef Morgeenstern as deputy president,
• Samuel Brandes as auditor,
• Mendel Goldenberg without function.

The Czernowitz press of the interwar period is available at DiFMOE: https://www.difmoe.eu/d/.

On the foundry you mention, please check Siegfried Jägendorf's memoirs, published in English, German and Romanian:

The Ghetto Prisoners Database, which I describe in my post of 28-Jun-2015.

https://hauster.blogspot.com/2015/06/good-news-from-region-state-archives-of.html

has been digitized by the USHMM and is searchable there:

https://www.ushmm.org/remember/resources-holocaust-survivors-victims/database-of-holocaust-survivor-and-victim-names

There you will find more data about the fate of those deported to Transnistria and also about their supporters.

I hope I could give you some useful hints. Good luck with your research!

Edgar Hauster

Subject: FW: [czernowitz-l] Emigration lists

I am looking for information on my family from Cernowitz and later Radautz. Names are Morgenstern, Brandes, Goldenberg.
The Brandes family were the owner of a coffeehouse in Czernowitz. After 1939 they moved to Radautz and from there were “expedited” to Mogilev in Transnistria. Luckily, since my father Josef Morgenstern was an engineer, he found work in a foundry in Mogilev which enabled the majority of the family to survive and return to Radautz and then Bucharest. .Obviously after many years of expectation the last part of the family succeeded in 1970 to arrive in Israel.

I would much appreciate if amongst the Czernowitz group there is some additional information about the above names and members of my family.
Many thanks in advance,

Kind Regards,

Shaul Morgenstern

Subject: [czernowitz-l] Emigration lists

I am looking for information about when my mother's family (Stern, Steren, Mandeli) may have emigrated from Czernowitz to Bucharest. I know they lived in Czernowitz in 1936 and even into the early 40's. I know there was widespread emigration from Czernowitz to Romania in 1940, 41-42, 44, 45-46. Are there any lists or other records available that might help me discover when they left?

Also are there lists of the people who received waivers from deportation from Traian Popovici or Corneliu Calotescu?

Thank you,
Anita Greenbaum-Brush
