Hi:

=20

My father lived in Austria from 1930 until he was forced to flee with =
his father (my grandfather =E2=80=93 born in Chernowitz) in 1938. My =
grandfather had a business in Vienna, my father applied for and received =
a pension from Austria and based on the note below =E2=80=93 I applied =
for citizenship (Jan. 2021 in Ottawa) and received it in Sept. 2021 =
=E2=80=93 while I was actually in Vienna !!! It was very easy, straight =
forward and no fuss =E2=80=93 of course the paperwork and fact that my =
father was already registered in the Austrian system =E2=80=93 made it =
easy.

=20

I also note some comments on why others would like an Austrian passport =
while they already hold an American or British etc. Good question =
=E2=80=93 and we all have our reasons. Mine was simple =E2=80=93 during =
Covid my wife (who is Swiss) was able to travel to Europe to visit =
family, while (as a Canadian) I was unable to do so. So, the real =
=E2=80=9Cimpetus=E2=80=9D to get an EU passport was - if this situation =
came up again, I can travel with her. And my children are also entitled =
to Austrian citizenship =E2=80=93 and this opens doors to them to easily =
work and live in the EU =E2=80=93 something that the current generation =
does a lot to gain international experience and credentials.
