Colleagues,
As some of you know, there has been consternation among some cultural heritage specialists that the UNESCO World Heritage Committee is still, so far as can be ascertained, planning on holding its annual meeting in Kazan, Russia, this June. There is a letter going around protesting this and urging a relocation of the meeting. If anyone wishes to be a co-signatory of the letter, please contact Tim Slade directly.
best regards,
Mark

Dear (UNESCO Head of Permanent Delegation for relevant member state),
We, the undersigned, members of the global heritage community:
Ask the Member States of the World Heritage Committee to call for a change of venue of the 45th session of the Committee, scheduled to be held in Kazan, Russian Federation between 19 and 30 June 2022.
Russia, the current President of the World Heritage Committee, is conducting an armed invasion of Ukraine that is threatening the lives of millions of people and endangeringing the cultural heritage of the country. In this situation, it would be unacceptable to organize the Committee meeting in Russia.
The majority of the Member States of the World Heritage Committee have already condemned the Russian invasion at the recent meeting of the UNESCO's Executive Board. The Committee meeting needs therefore to be rescheduled and transferred to another venue.
We speak not just for ourselves as practitioners, but for the many millions who recognize the irreplaceable value of World Heritage, who trust in UNESCO to actively promote and protect it.
Sincerely,
Name, Position/role, Country of residence
