If I may add my voice to the issue of the converted: There were always
aliens who converted to Judaism from the Greco-Roman period and until
today.Because of true ideological motives, they accepted Judaism with its
difficult way of life, host of obligations, restrictions and its usual
consequences of discriminations and persecutions. In fact, as we know
it is very difficult to convert to Judaism in Israel, where this procedure
is exclusively under the authority of the ultra-orthodox Rabbis, and an
alien deciding to convert just to marry an Israelite, male or female, would
not be accepted. On the otter hand, an Ukrainian or another alien wishing
to immigrate to Israel by marrying a Jewish girl, does not have to convert;
according to the current Law of Return;he receives an entry visa, the right
to live and work in Israel.
By the way, it seems to me to remember that there were in Czernowitz some
Jewish families of alien origin, who converted., and given the Abraham ben
