We met Charles and Lydia in the Czeremosh Hotel.
 In 2006.
One day noon when we prepared to go out for eat
Charles and Lydia were down in the lobby :
"Eat ?" they asked us and we replied : Yes ,very much eat !
 Come ! we show you.
And down we went the stairs by the reception .
Into the canteen of the employees or occasional tourist.
We ate Holishki, and meat and other tasty stuff.
They spoke French and we Hebrew as my
wife is from Piatra Neamt some 80 km down the road.
We had a good time - we'll remember!

Hello,

It has touched me deeply to read all these warm tributes to Lydia.
I only met her once - two years ago at the IAJGS conference
in Paris, where she attended the Bukoviners' meeting and
later, the dinner that we organized in the hotel.

Although I didn't get to know her very well, she impressed me
as being a lovely, warm and intelligent person.

Merle

Subject: RE: [Cz-L] In memory of Lydia Schmerler :

Hello to all,

This little word to tell you that my beloved father Charles, had since
childhood a sheer and platonic love story, until the end.

They had for each other deep respect, and she pushed him a lot towards
reconnecting with his / their history, Czernowitz.

During the last 10 years, they had very frequent contact, since my father
was retired... and while both were fighting against diseases, they wrote and
gave advices to each other on how to cope with it.

Strangely when my father passed away on December 21st, I tried to call her
at home to inform her, and through the several days when I tried, I had this
strange feeling...

May their memories be blessed.

David.
