Good German speaking was every Czernowitzer desire,
But only very few achieved this !
Many knew Schiller poems but how to apply this in everyday
speak was the problem,

And then there is the old play on words...."Nehmen Sie Platz"...ie Have a
seat, as opposed to the non-good-German speaker's "platzen Sie"...meaning
blow up! Cornel

Dear all,
I know some jokes but here it is not a joke but more the sort of Cernowitzer
speach which means you have to have some knowledge of Jidish, Ukrainian and
Rumanian.
Here it is: A jewish woman wants to buy a chicken. The chicken is a little
lean so she says to the seller: day un blus, say in sus, mai mult federn
decat gaina.
If you translate it the whole joke is lost but I wil try it anyway.
"If you give a blow it jumps up, there are more fethers than chicken.
The second Cernowitz say:
A woman passes near a selster of cream and unwilingly turns over a can of
cream. So she says to the woman ; "Pardon" To wich the woman answers:
"Perde ni perde mne za smetanu zaplate"
The word Pardon sounds in Ukrainian like perde, which is a dirty word, so
she says in Ukrainian "you can say perde, but pay me for the cream"
I hope you enjoy this old Cernowitzer jokes.
best whishes
David
