I would like to add another aspect to what is called "being Rumanian" , or
rather becoming Rumanian. My Grandfather had what was called a "Depot" - a
beer wholesale business . The business accounts were run properly (in
German) including tax payments. After some time of Rumania rule some people
came to the business stating that they belong to the tax authorities
claiming that the tax rate was changed and the business owes a very large
sum of money to the authorities. My grandfather was advised by friends that
the problem can be arranged by bribe. Being what he was he protested took
the case to court where he lost the case and later the whole business. There
was also a bright side because when the Russians entered he was saved from
being sent to Siberia like many of other businessmen.
