Very good answers, Hardy. Thank you.
What I don't understand is why some Cz Jews perished in the Holocaust =
while others were permitted to live there normally??=20
Who decided who was to live and who was to die?
Was it a matter of luck? How important they were? Who they knew? Who =
they paid off?
I haven't heard of other Nazi occupied cities where so many Jews lived =
safely, except maybe Copenhagen.
So Czernowitz was always special and did not suffer as badly as the =
rest of conquered Europe. But most Jews chose not to stay there after =
the War. The Soviets were not that much better than the Nazis and their =
collaborators.
