Hello, Merle, Ilana and Anny,

Thank you for your kind welcome to the group. It is nice to be referred to
as a "young person," since I am actually a grandmother !

I have not yet had an opportunity to look at all the resources, which I am
still learning about, for tracing family members in Bukovina and in
Czernowitz. After I am able to look through the online documents, I hope
to be able to pursue any connections I may find there.

I intend to post some photos soon, of the Goldenberg family of Czernowitz.
My hope is the remote possibility that someone will recognize one or more
of them.

I also wonder whether anyone knows if there is a way to trace family
members in Israel.

My Czernowitz grandfather, Emil Goldenberg, told me that his two sisters,
Betty Goldenberg and Sali Goldenberg (Goldenberg was their maiden name) had
emigrated from Romania to Israel after WWII. My parents visited some
Goldenberg-descended cousins in the Haifa area in 1971, but I don't know
their names. I am going to look through some old letters from my mother to
see whether I can find out who they were. Unfortunately my parents are no
longer with us, so I can't ask them all these questions.

There was also a Romanian-born cousin of my fathers' who used to come to
the U.S. as a ship steward - I met him several times when I was a child.
(It turned out that he was a diamond smuggler.) His name was Marcus
Goldenberg - I believe that he had also moved to Israel after WWII. He may
have been the son of my grandfather's brother, whose name was either Isaac,
Israel, or Isidore Goldenberg, also from Czernowitz.

With best wishes to all,

Marilyn
