for myself, whose family lived in czernowitz before ww2 and never told
anything after the war ( you know the parents wanted to protect us from
the echo of the shoah) i can testify that the only knowledge about my
family's past was the book of florence heymann and the stories of
appelfeld; thanks to them i feel less "a tree without roots", and i
thank them both (unfortunately appelfeld died) for the contribution
