<x-flowed>Dear Friends:
I regret to report that our dear friend and group member, Mr. Isak
Shteyn of Rochester, NY, passed away Nov. 29, 2002. He leaves behind
his dear wife Roza, children, grandchildren, and siblings in New
York, Montreal and Israel.
Born in Storozhinets, Bukowina, he survived the holocaust and lived
until the late 1980s at numerous locations in Bukowina, including
Sadgura and Czernowitz. He helped some of you to learn more about
relatives from Storozhinets. He used his multi-lingual abilities to
translate several passages from Hugo Gold's book, Geschichte der
Juden in der Bukowina, into English. These translations were posted
on the JewishGen yizkor book web site. He was particularly proud of
seeing his translation of the chapter on Storozhinets posted on
JewishGen.
In his memory, I will repost in my next email his two posts to the
group. Those of you who subscribed to Czernowitz-L after mid-June
missed seeing his posts. Isak was a devoted family man, a friend,
and a true scholar. He will be missed by many.
