<x-flowed>Dear Czernowitzers:
Some news for you, plus a procedural matter in today's email:
1. Mariette: Congratulations on the release of your new book about
your father, Robert Guttherz of Czernowitz. I hope the reception for
the book and video coming up in Montreal will be a great event. But
I kindly remind you (and others) that attachments should not be sent
with emails to <czernowitz-L_at_cornell.edu>. Some members pay for
dial-up connections to the internet. Also, the attachments are not
handled well by the listserv software for those receiving messages
from the list in digest form. So - I recommend that you offer to
send attached files to list members, and that the attachments be sent
only to those specifically requesting it. Posting to a web site is
another alternative.
2. The Czernowitz cemetery project has now transcribed over 5000
names! We are starting on the parcel by parcel, non alphabetized
lists of burials, where we hope to pick up as many entries as
possible for the period 1866 to 1905, which are not included in the
alphabetized sections. The parcel listings sometimes give the name
and address of a relative - a bonus of information not seen in the
alphabetized sections.
3. We are about to enlist several new but experienced transcribers
(we hope) who were part of the project to index over 150,000 records
from Dachau. This should be a major boost to our efforts.
Warmest wishes,
Bruce
