Hi "Czernowitzers" (or rather "Bukowinians")
My name is Yossef Eshet (born as Jery Wolf in Czernowitz, 1936). I had a
few talks with Mr. Jula Weiner who actually runs almost single handed the
B.J.W.U (especially since the death of Yitzhak Artzi). Although he is a very
energetic person, he is aware that he and his generation of octogenarians+ can
not keep on for very long. That's the reason why he raised the idea
of "The Second Generation". Meaning that people like the members of the
"List", and others, who have interest should gradually take over, and "keep the
torch lit". The three main activities of the B.J.W.U today are: The
monthly publication of "Die Stimme"; Support for needy ,old Bukovinians;
and contact with authorities like "Claims Conference" concerning the
compensations for the Bukovinian holocaust victims. "Die Stimme" is now an
one woman operation by the name of Baerbl Rabi, who took over from the fantastic
Mr. Rudel (now retired). Mr. Weiner raised the idea that, people searching
for information about their Bukowinian families could advertise their requests
as an ad in "Die Stimme" for a fee of $30. Generally speaking I think this is
not a bad idea, as the few hundred people, from all over the world, who still
subscribe for "Die Stimme" are mostly old Bukovinians and may have the
information needed. As for the translation of "Die Stimme" Mr. Weiner intends to
do it here anyway if he will get enough requests. An English, and
Hebrew version of "Die Stimme" is part of "The Second Generation" idea.
