Larry,

To get to Unter Stanestie from Czernowitz, you would travel west up the
Pruth valley for about 18 km or so, then turn left and head up into the
hills for a few km.

In Geneva in 1987, I was introduced by my aunt to a friend of hers - a widow
named Fritzi Loebl. Her husband, Eugen Loebl, had been a minister in the
communist Czech government after the war. After a show trial in 1952 he was
imprisoned in the most inhumane circumstances, which he later described in a
book "My Mind on Trial". He was released in the 60's, and after the "Prague
Spring" fled to the USA. I don't know whether he might have been some
relation of yours?

   Hello Czernowitzers,

My name is Larry Lobel. I'm 54 years old and live in California, though
I'm a native of New York City. I became interested in my family history
about 15 years ago and have done research on and off during that time. My
paternal grandfather, Jacob Lobel (1889-1960), a native of Bukovina,
emigrated to the US in 1907. He said he came from Unter-Stanestie, which
through my research I found to be a small town near Sadagura and Czernowitz,
which he also used to mention by name.
