Subject: [Cz-L] Hauptstrasse Mystery

Czernowitzers:

Seems to me that this never got to the Cz-L list, so I'm sending Bruce
Wexler's question and associated correspondence to our Cz-L group for
comment. The question is WHAT HAPPENED TO THE HAUPTSTRASSE?

BW's original email to me:

Jerome,
I have been looking at the list of streets. I have heard many years ago that
my grandparents or great-grandparents lived on Hauptstrassse. Now I see the
map and sure enough there is a Hauptstrasse. My question is, why is this
main street (literally) not listed on the list of streets on the
spreadsheet. Is it not there anymore, or is it listed with a different name?
Thanks

Bruce of New Jersey:

I hope you will pose this question to <Czernowitz-L_at_cornell.edu> too.

On Jerome's Cz-L web site, the map named "totalmap.gif" lists the
street as Enzenberghauptstrasse, so it might help others if you can
say where you found a map with the street name shorted to
Hauptstrasse.

Thanks and good luck!
