Miriam (Mimi) Taylor <mirtaylo_at_indiana.edu>
Romanian fairy tales, usually start with: "A fost o data, si daca nu s'a fi
fost, nu s'a fi povesti. (there once was, and had it not been, it would not
be told.) Unfortunately, many things are told about which we can say in
Yiddish: Nisht geshtoigen, nisht gefloigen, nor fom finger oisgesoigen.
No disrespect meant to Hardy, I think he would have been a benevolent
monarch.
But returning to Romanian, now we could say: Daca povestim ceva, o se fie?
(when we tell something, will it be?) I guess not.
Apologies to those who spell Romanian correctly,
Mimi
