[Cz-L] ROM-SIG Meeting at the International Conference on Jewish Genealogy

Dear Czernowitzers:

Another chance to meet face-to-face with those who share your
interest in Romanian Jewish Genealogy is coming up this summer at the
26th International Conference on Jewish Genealogy in New York
<http://www.jgsny2006.org/>. We hope you'll join us for the ROM-SIG
(Romanian Jewish Genealogy - Special Interest Group) meeting, and
please invite your friends who also share an interest in their
Romanian Jewish ancestry.

The ROM-SIG covers all of present-day Romania and the Republic of
Moldova, as well as the southwestern portion of Ukraine and southern
Hungary. This area includes the regions formerly known as Bukovina,
Bessarabia, Transylvania, and the Banat.

The main thrust of our work in 2005 was to enter more data into the
All-Romanian database, including records from the U.S. Holocaust
Memorial Museum and the LDS. We have added chapters of the Pinkhas
Hakehillot Romania to the Yizkor Book site and are working on adding
books about the Jewish communities of two towns. We are also working
on the addition of cemetery data to JOWBR on JewishGen.

1. New developments in Romanian research - Merle Kastner
2. New developments in Bukovina research - Bruce Reisch
3. Report on the "Czernowitz Reunion 2006" (speakers to be
arranged; invitations have gone out to two attendees who are at the
reunion right now)
4. "Round-the-table" - a chance for everyone present to
introduce themselves and announce the towns and family names they are
researching

The ROM-SIG co-coordinators are unable to attend this year, so the
ROM-SIG meeting is being organized by Merle Kastner and Bruce Reisch.
