The street you mentioned is listed under the Street Name Translator. In =
the Austrian era it was Siebenb=FCrgerstrasse (vom Kriegerdenkmal bis =
zum Volksgarten); I remember it very well. It is now called Vulitza =
Holovna (was Ulitza Glavnaya in Russian and Ulitza Lenina under the =
Soviets). It is by now well known that many streets (wherever names had =
been given by sections belonging in fact to one longer street), have =
been merged and we can clearly see it when analysing the Ukrainian map. =
Regarding the house numbers - I was told by my brother who was there =
some 5-6 years ago that due to the street merging process the buildings =
were renumbered; he recognized our apartment building right away and =
even found a Jewish family living in our apartment for the last 25 =
years. It seems that while in Czernowitz you'll have to find somebody =
who lives there or is familiar with the history of the neighbourhood or =
you'll find a register in the municipality where those changes are =
recorded.

Mimi was lucky that she found somebody who was able to help during her =
visits.
