Dear Czernowitzers,
I have been a passive follower of the Czernowitz conversations for some =
time hoping that something would pop up about the Jewish population from =
Khotin which I have been told is the origin of my paternal ancestors. =
All the info I have is that my great grandfather, Yoina Vaisburd or
Weissbord ( I have both spellings, more or less) was the
owner of a flour mill in that area, I guess along the local
river. He apparently lost his first wife, the mother of my
grandmother and 2 siblings, remarried and fathered 3 more
sons. I have some indication that there was one more
daughter with the notation "Holocaust victim". My great
grandfather apparently died in 1939. Anyone have any info
on the history of that area which is not far from Czernowitz?
