Dear Charles, Dear Czernowitzers,
Any and all who have an opinion about whether a Czernowitzers meeting should
be held this December in Israel or at some later time and in any other
country or city, please write to the Cz-L.
Charles may be right, that for some, it would be a financial constraint to
have two meetings in the same calendar year.
My reasons for wanting to have the next meeting in Israel are:
The largest proportion of Czernowitzers, both those who participated in the
recent reunion and those who did not, live in Israel. Beth Hatfutzot (museum
of the Diaspora), Yad vaShem, the Zionist Archives and the central library
in Tel Aviv, all located in Israel, hold archival material relevant to the
history Czernowitz.
My reasons for wanting the meeting to take place in Dec. 2006:
There are many Czernowitzers who had intended to participate in the
"reunion", but for reasons beyond their control could not do so. They are
eager to catch up with those who did travel to Chernivtsi. Even though the
proposed meeting would not offer them the opportunity to visit Czernowitz,
it would give them the opportunity to meet and converse with many other
Czernowitzers. Many of us who participated in the "reunion", would like to
continue the talks and discussions we started there and many of us are also
eager to meet soon with the friends we made at the reunion.
Many of us who live in cold climates, like to go to a warmer sunnier place
in the winter and those of us who work, have vacation during some part of
December.
Best regards to all,
Mimi
