Dear all
Unfortunately I could not attend May 2006 reunion due to my son's
wedding; therefore I am more than excited to have a second chance here in
Israel. I agree with Lucca and Danny that this should be a Bucoviner Reunion
and I think my own story would fit many of us. My grandmother Lea Scharf was
born [1900] in Putila. As she was 30 years younger than her eldest brother,
he left Putila as a young man and his 8 children were born in the
Surrounding villages such as Zastavna , Kisilev, Verchianka and more.
My mother was born in Czernowitc, and she will gladly attend, so will the
very few cousins who survived Transnistria [but were born around
Czernowitz...]
Talking to my mother about this reunion she told me for the very first time
that she did come back to Czernowitz from Transnistria with an aunt that
"took 2-3 years of her age" in order to put her back into Russian school.
I believe this gathering, should and would allow such stories to come out at
last.
Mimi, to your questions; Three days are fine. As to place - maybe we should
think, for the sake of the elderly, of somewhere near a train station [in
that case Herzelia would be fine].A gallery of Photographs and memorabilia
would be nice. Unfortunately I have very few to offer. One of my remote
relatives is a well known painter who is focusing on the TRansnistria
experience. I am sure I can convince her to have an exhibition during the
reunion.
I would like to help in organizing .In my capacity as general secretary of
the Israeli Genealogical Society [IGS]; I would like on our president's
behalf [Ms.Channa Furman] to offer cooperation such as publicity in our
website, in our journal "Sharsheret Hadorot" and in our regular mailing
list.
I shall be attending New York conference in case some of us would like to
talk things over.
Hoping for a better day tomorrow
Lea
