My name is Yehudit Yerushalmi-Terris born in Czernowitz 1935 and live
currently in Rishon Le Zion , Israel.
My parents Roza Engelberg (nee Kinsbruner born in Czernowitz) and my father
Herman Engelberg born in Zastawna.
I n 1941, when I was only six years old, during the invasion of the
Roumanian and German forces, my sister Frederika died becuase we could not
obtain the services of a doctor to help her. In the same year, we were
deported to Transnistria. We were sent to Moghilev and, from there, we
marched in the snow, mud and rain to Shargorod where a ghetto/ lager was
established. All of my family, except my Parents and myself, died from
Typhus and hunger.
After the war ended in 1945, we returned to Czernowitz and lived in the
Karolinengasse.
In 1947, when the Soviets allowed family reunion, we travelled to Bucarest
where my mother's brother lived. His name was Emanuel Kinsbruner. He was a
well-known journalist and was known by his pen name "Emanuel".
In January 1950, we made Aliya to Israel. My parents and 30 other families
established a Moshav called "Gan Soreq" near Rishon Le Zion. Some years
later I married and moved to Rishon Le Zion. I have a son and a daughter and
six grandchildren. In 1977 I became a widow after my husband died.
Some years later, I remarried and my husband is Alfred Terris. He is an
Engineer, born in the US who made Aliya in 1971. Both of us worked for
ISRAEL AIRCRAFT INDUSTRIES.
I am involved in the various activities such as the Bukovina Follow-On
Generations, Soroptimist, Yad Vashem, Community Leadership in the
Municipality of Rishon Le Zion.
Languages: Fluent in German, English, Hebrew. Speak, write and understand:
French, Spanish and Roumanian. Understand and read: Russian.
