Group,
I agree with Charles' suggestion that we work, and be seen by the city, as a group. I'm not sure I agree with his proposal that we state at the outset that we have no funds, rather wait and see what they propose, and what they ask for.
I would like to reiterate what I said when this first came up, that as we did with the Reunion, we esablish a committee to discuss our response to each contact with the city. In addition, I will state again that this is a golden opportunity, that may not come again.
we must have a coordinated, centralized effort to maximize this opportunity.

Subject: [Cz-L] Celebration: I believe we should not write individually
Hi Jerome and all List members!
I believe it would be a mistake to have us writing
individually to the letter of Mr. Kilinich: We should
act as a group – that’s more impressive.
As I already said, Jerome should, in his next mail to
Kilinich (the first answer is gone, I understand),
just ask what their intentions are regarding the part
of the celebration allotted to the Jewish presence in
the city and around.
And, should Mr. Kilinich come up with funding
requests, so what? We simply answer that we have no
funds, but that we would gladly provide the city with
exhibition materials, ideas and advice (we could, of
course, tell them about examples of other cities like
advised by Marianne)… in addition to the fact that “we
made a special place for (his announcements of the
celebration), give permission to use (materials from
our website), etc.”
Of course, no need to mention that the mail-exchange
will be read by all members of the group - this is
obvious.
Thus, our answer being clear and polite, and as we
show that we are ready to give a reasonable help, I
believe we’ll soon know exactly where we stand and
what we can possibly expect.
Regards,
Charles
