Dear Friends:
I've been a bit quiet on the recent discussions regarding how to
attain certain goals via our contacts with Chernivtsi city officials.
I've been distracted by some matters at home, family obligations, as
well as work. I've also needed some time to ponder the situation.
I'd like to thank Jerome for taking the initiative to create a
decision-making arm of the Czernowitz-L. List operation matters
might also need to be considered at some future time, as some have
suggested moving our group to yahoogroups. But I've deferred on that
decision for now. I fully support Jerome and Marianne's efforts to
create a way by which our group could reach a consensus on Temple and
Cemetery issues. I'm not in a position myself to take on this
responsibility; but I'm genuinely very happy that the existence of
this discussion group has created a way to network with
Czernowitz/Bukowina Jews and their descendants for support of common
goals. Now it's up to others to express their concerns and generate
a considered response to Chernivtsi city officials.
I'd like to add that the response that may come from our online
community should be coordinated with both the Bukovina Jews World
Union as well as the "Second Generations Group of Bukovinians"
(www.bukowina.org.il). Members of both groups are subscribers to
Czernowitz-L (as recently pointed out by Nathan Gross). If these
groups have positions on the issues regarding the Tempel and the
Jewish cemetery, I hope they will continue the discussion with
Marianne who will then pass along their information via updates to
the entire discussion group.
Warmest wishes,
Bruce
